Instructor directions are listed below:

  1. Distribute the Internet of Things (IoT) rings to students.
  2. Explain to students that Qualcomm is heavily involved in creating IoT solutions to problems in the world. Use the IoT cover card to explain that IoT includes consumer electronics, smart cities, smart homes, and voice and music.
  3. Further explain that for this project, students will be creating a solution in the consumer electronics area of IoT.
  4. Ask students to flip to the Consumer Electronics card.
  5. Explain that consumer electronics are all of the electronics that we, the consumers, use for fun and entertainment. This includes items such as cameras, drones, robots, printers, remote controllers, wearables and more.
  6. Ask students if they know of any smart devices that would be part of the consumer electronics category.
  7. Read the description from the back of the Consumer Electronics card: "Consumer Electronics in the IoT space can include products that can receive, read and analyze and wirelessly send that information via a mobile device or the cloud. For example, if you are wearing a fitness tracker, the tracker’s sensor can collect the number of steps you take and your heart rate and then other components within the tracker can send that information wirelessly."
  8. Explain to students that for this project, they will be creating one of two wearables: one that solves some problem OR one that represents their SIVs a. Note to instructor: Please decide prior to camp which project you would like focus on for the entirety of camp. We suggest focusing on SIVs if students are working on individual projects and Problem if working as a team.
  9. Share with your students Qualcomm’s webpage on Wearables to help students begin to generate ideas.
