  1. Share the following facts about Qualcomm with your students:
    • Qualcomm was founded in 1985 by Dr. Irwin Jacobs and six other engineers
    • The name Qualcomm was derived from the words “Quality Communications”
    • Qualcomm is a company of inventors
    • Qualcomm invents the "smart" in your smartphone
    • Qualcomm employs people around the world
    • Qualcomm employs both engineers and non-engineers
    • Qualcomm developed Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) for mobile, the technology that launched high speed mobile connectivity for our smartphones
    • One notable feature on your smartphone is Airplane Mode, which is one of Qualcomm’s most recognizable patents
    • Qualcomm is a leader in developing 5G technology
  2. Explain that Qualcomm is the largest fabless semi-conductor company in the world, meaning that they design the technology and other companies produce the actual devices.
  3. Qualcomm works with major phone manufacturers and cell phone carriers.
