Instructor directions are listed below:

  1. Remind students that their strengths, interests, and values will continue to change over time. Things that are important to them now, may not be in the future and they may gain new interests as they gain more experiences. It is important for students to revisit their SIV's every 6 months to a year.
  2. Ask students to reflect on what they learned about themselves through this activity, sharing with the class if desired.
  3. If you have additional time, further student projects around strengths, interests, and values include:
  • Have students create a visual representation of their strengths, interests, and/or values to display in your classroom.
  • Have students write a letter to a friend or relative explaining their strengths, interests and values and why it is important to be self-aware.

It is important for students to understand that they are unique, that they have strengths, and that there is a place in the world for them. Continually emphasize the importance of being self-aware and celebrate the unique talents of your students. If you have consistency with your students, consider incorporating strengths, interests, and values into your daily curriculum.
