Warning: Do not turn the Servos by hand. Doing so can damage the mechanisms inside the Servos.

 

  1. Pick up each component and examine it closely.
     
  2. Refer to the video to identify each of the components in your hardware kit as one of the following:
    • 1 Arduino Uno board
    • 1 Standard Servo (the small Servo in the video)
    • 1 Continuous Servo (the big Servo in the video)
    • 1 Red wire
    • 1 Black wire
    • 1 White wire
    • Computer
    • 1 USB A to USB type B Cable
       
  3. Note: you will not need the Breadboard, LED, or resistor for this activity.  It is recommended that you put these materials away as they are easy to lose.

At the Thinkabit Lab, we reuse our Servos as much as possible. This means there are likely bits of glue attached to it from a previous project, and possibly some have a broken horn (the Servos are usually still functional).

Servo horn, the top piece attached to the Servo, is broken

  1. It is not necessary to replace the horn if it is missing a leg or two. Hot glue will be used to attach to it anyway.

  1. Attach a horn on the Servo or replace the Servo.
